Headline: 2019 IASS Fellows Represent Broad Array of Disciplines and Professions

One of the founding ideas of the IASS was to bring together multiple sources of ingenuity to address the sustainability challenges of our time. The institute’s Fellow Programme aims to serve as a knowledge hub by providing a constant inflow of new ideas and experiences and an open space for thinking outside the box. Through their interaction and cooperation with the institute’s staff and other organisations in the region, the fellows also gain from the experience and take new insights with them as they continue on their career paths.

Individuals can apply to become IASS Fellows via the annual public call for applications, to which 172 applicants from 46 countries responded to the call for this year. In addition, the IASS Directors may invite individuals to become fellows based on internal strategic discussions. Fellows may come from all walks of life and any country, and the IASS actively encourages people from outside scientific organisations to contact us if they are interested in participating in the Fellow Programme.

The IASS Fellow Programme is also open to individuals who are funded by a third party. In 2019, the institute will host four externally financed fellows: Adrian Martinéz-Blanco from Costa Rica, Jyoti Prajparti from Nepal, Inaiê Takea Santos from Brazil (all funded by the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation), and Ravindra Singh Ziad Rattan Aulia from Fiji (funded by the Green Talents Programme).
