Headline: Do you know your CO₂-footprint? The IASS at the Potsdam Environment Festival

On 1st of September 2013, the 4th Potsdam Environment Festival will take place. The IASS Potsdam as well as local initiatives, clubs and actors will exhibit at the event. This year, the IASS booth in the Volkspark will focus on CO2 and air quality, two main points of the institute's research:

CO2 – what does that have to do with me?

Do you know how much CO2 emission you cause? The media report constantly on global climate negotiations, rules on CO2 emissions and on the greenhouse effect. But what does that have to do with us? How does our lifestyle contribute to CO2 emissions and what can you do to live a more environmentally friendly life? Work out your carbon footprint and find out how meat consumption compares to a vegetarian diet in terms of CO2 intensity and how energy from fossil fuels stands up to eco-electricity.

How clean is our air?

Everyone knows and uses weather forecasts: Will it be cold or warm? Will the sun shine or will it rain? Meanwhile, it is also possible to forecast the concentration of various pollutants in the atmosphere. The chemical weather forecast can explain these complex reactions and processes in the atmosphere.

Last year, the Potsdam Environment Festival counted around 2,000 visitors at the Volkspark to find information on environment, nature, sustainability and consumption. Knowledge is conveyed in a playful and entertaining way and visitors can participate in experiments at the stands.
