Headline: Global Sustainability Summer School 2013

What are the urbanization trends of the future? Which role do cities play in the global climate change? How big is the worldwide impact of the energy transformation? These and further questions are at the centre of the Global Sustainability Summer School 2013 themed “COMPLEX(C)ITY – Urbanization and energy transition in a changing climate“.

The Global Sustainability Summer School 2013 started on July 1st in Potsdam. This two week summer academy is jointly organized by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS). This year the jury has chosen the 40 most promising young scientists out of 360 applications. Together with internationally renowned speakers the participants who are coming from 26 countries, will discuss global questions on sustainability concerning the areas of urbanization, energy transformation and climate change. The summer academy will be opened by Prof. Töpfer, Executive Director of the IASS, and the Director of the PIK, Prof. Schellnhuber.

The GSSS is funded by the Robert Bosch Stiftung and offers participants as well as speakers the unique opportunity to network and exchange views.

In addition to the workshops, which are offered within the frame of the GSSS and are only open to participants, the organizers of the summer school invite the general public to a panel discussion (in English language) with the title “The Way to the City of the Future”. It will take place on July 8th 2013 starting at 6.30pm.

The event venue is the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Science and Humanities, Jägerstraße 22/23 in 10117 Berlin. The event is open to the public and free of charge. We kindly ask you to register with cityofthefuture8july [at] pik-potsdam [dot] de (cityofthefuture8july[at]pik-potsdam[dot]de).
