Headline: IASS joins the Network for Sustainable Science (NaWis)

31. January 2012. The Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies became a member of Verbund für Nachhaltige Wissenschaft (NaWis – Network for Sustainable Science) last month. The network is committed to strengthening transdisciplinary sustainability science in Germany’s universities and research institutes. Kassel University, Leuphana University in Lüneberg and the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy allied themselves in the NaWis network at the beginning of April 2011. The IASS Potsdam is the fourth NaWis member.

The four institutes have already taken up collaborative work in key areas of sustainability science, such as climate adaptation research, alternative energy development and sustainable resource-use cycles. The NaWis members are planning joint research projects, courses and conferences for the future.

The current NaWis event is the conference “Producing Transformative Knowledge” beginning on February 6th at the North Rhein-Westfalian state chancellery in Berlin. The conference opens a series of events marking Science Year 2012 “Sustainability/Future Project Earth.” This month‘s conference addresses the integration of economics and civil society in science, as well as the upcoming restructuring of research policy. IASS Secretary General Dr. Dr. Mario Tobias will step up as speaker at the conference.
