Dr. Jörg Mayer-Ries

Jörg Mayer-Ries has been head of a division on general aspects of environmental and sustainability policy at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) since 2007. It is in this capacity that he is currently supporting the Science Platform Sustainability 2030 as a senior fellow at the IASS and a guest scientist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK).
After studies in Political Economy and Political Science at Augsburg and Oldenburg, Mayer-Ries worked as a teaching assistant at the Institute for Political Economy in Oldenburg from 1984 to 1989. He was Director of Studies for Economic, Environmental and North-South Policy at the Lutheran Academies Loccum and Berlin until 1998. His PhD in political economy at the Centre for Latin American Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin focused on emerging transnational regimes for climate and rainforest policy. He was Senior Consultant for Sustainability, Foresight and Innovation and Research at a private business consultancy from 1999 to 2007.
