WORKSHOP THE FUTURE IS NOW

The Sustainable Development Goals: innovative ways to deliver accelerated action and transformative pathways in Europe

05.03.2020
Uhrzeit:

A shared-learning event and evening reception jointly organised and hosted by: Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) and the Welsh Government

What can we learn from those who are doing things differently and use the decade of action to close the sustainable development implementation gap in Europe?

LIVE-STREAM:

The aim of the event is to consider how a European level dialogue between governments, civil society, academic and business communities, can strengthen our collective capacity to mobilise and accelerate transformation processes in our communities and regions.

In 2015, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out an ambitious agenda to transform the world for people, planet and prosperity. Despite global commitments, action to meet the Goals is not yet advancing at the speed or scale required to deliver the Goals by 2030.  At the UN Summit of the Sustainable Development Goals in September 2019, world leaders called for a decade of collective, global and local action to ”unleash the social and economic transformation needed to achieve our 2030 goals”.

At the start of this decade of action, we would like to invite you to a day of interactive workshops and presentations.  In this event, we will explore how governments and public administrations can learn from the experience of innovative communities and regions, citizens and actors, and link those initiatives to regional, national and European governance structures and programmes to accelerate the speed and scale of the transformation needed during the next decade.

The Welsh Government will share its innovative response to the Sustainable Development Agenda through the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015, which translates the SDGs into law and established the World’s first Future Generations Commissioner.

The Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies will share aspects from its work with a range of partners in Federal and State Governments.

Following the shared learning event, we would be delighted if you could join us at a Wales Reception hosted by the First Minister for Wales at 17:30.
