Headline: Sustainable development and ancient culture: Delegation of the Kogi Indians visits IASS

The culture of the Kogi is one of the most original and traditional cultures of Colombia and throughout South America. Based on the insight that man is nature, the Kogi plan the construction of their villages and the esablishment of their business through ceremonial “agreements” with the history of the territory, the animate and inanimate nature of the respective location and with “the heart of the earth”.

One of the spiritual leaders of the tribe of the Kogi Indians, the “Mama” Pedro Juan Nevita, is currently visiting Germany thanks to the Colombian Embassy. At the Institute of Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) the Mama meets with researchers from the IASS and its partner institutions to exchange ideas. The subject of the dialogue is the Mama’s view on climate change and global responsibility in the anthropocene.

The event at the IASS Potsdam accompanies a dialogue project on cultural principles of sustainable development whose results will be published this summer by the Berlin publishing company Matthes & Seitz.
