Headline: Veranstaltungen in 2019

Unter dem Titel "Starke Orte, schöne Worte" findet vom 14. bis 19. Mai zum siebten Mal das Literaturfestival LIT:Potsdam statt. Viele Lesungen sind an geschichtsträchtigen Orten, die sich in Parks und am Wasser befinden, als auch auf den Bühnen der brandenburgischen Hauptstadt. Die auf die Lesung folgende Diskussion mit Robert Habeck und Judith Schalansky moderiert Profesor Ortwin Renn, wissenschaftlicher Direktor vom IASS.

With its overarching theme - “Digitalisation in the Energy Transition” – the ENavi Summer School will launch a series of interactive events to be held annually in Potsdam. The intense five-day, multi-faceted programme will help participants to acquire profound knowledge in the fields of future mobility, blockchain and big data, smart energy management of building heating systems, and smart digital solutions.

In der Kosmos-Lesung der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) erklärt Prof. Dr. Patrizia Nanz, Institut für transformative Nachhaltigkeitsforschung Potsdam (IASS), wie die Auseinandersetzung mit Humboldts Wissenschaftsverständnis das Bewusstsein für plurale Perspektiven auf Klima schaffen kann. Wie in wenig anderen Politikfeldern macht die Klimapolitik das erodierende öffentliche Vertrauen in Wissenschaft und Demokratie sichtbar.

The Task Force on Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution met at IASS Potsdam, Germany, on April 25-26 2019. Approximately 30 people attended the meeting, including representatives of TF IAM and CIAM, who had just attended the 48th meeting of TF IAM in Berlin over the previous 2 days. Terry Keating (US Environmental Protection Agency, TF HTAP chair) chaired the meeting. Tim Butler (IASS Potsdam, local organiser) welcomed TF HTAP to Potsdam and opened the meeting.

Effective monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) is critical for the success of marine conservation and management. Whereas States have the right to manage the marine resources within their national jurisdiction, the high seas are subject to a complex patchwork of international rules and regulations. This workshop in Paris, France,will focus primarily on possible options for strengthening MCS through a new international instrument on high seas biodiversity, currently under negotiation at the United Nations.

The global transition to renewable sources of energy is in full swing. The social and economic opportunities presented by this transformation are spurring the growth of renewable energy generation in many countries. Among many other countries South Africa is in the midst of an energy transition, with important social and economic implications, depending on the pathways that are chosen. Against this background South Africa has launched a widely acknowledged country‐wide Just Transition Dialogue series.

Die Belastung durch Plastik in der Umwelt nimmt stetig zu und erhält zunehmend auch öffentliche Aufmerksamkeit. Mit dem BMBF-Forschungsschwerpunkt „Plastik in der Umwelt“ soll dem immer noch lückenhaften Kenntnisstand entgegengewirkt werden. Die insgesamt 20 Forschungsprojekte mit mehr als 100 beteiligten Institutionen aus Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft und Praxis befassen sich dabei mit ganz unterschiedlichen Aspekten der Problematik von Plastikmüll.
