STRONG High Seas: Legal and Institutional Lessons from Regional Seas
This UN side event is organized under the STRONG High Seas project and open to participants and delegates at the Intergovernmental Conference on an international legally binding instrument under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction (General Assembly resolution 72/249). The side event will be the opportunity to present on recent findings from the STRONG High Seas project regarding the legal and institutional frameworks of the South East Pacific and South East Atlantic as well as lessons learnt from other marine regions. The event will be an opportunity to discuss and exchange on legal and institutional challenges and opportunities relevant to marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction and a future global agreement.
